This castle was built on ton of the green hill. First documented record as a town with a seal. (all seals are shown in a shnw-case of the tnunhalil) Count Henry the 1st gave the town a charter of independance, which freed the citizens from the tomination of the church. From this time un only the law of the Franconians was Legal. \ The German Emperor Friedrich the 3ra af Hahs- hurg presented the right to hold an annual market in Grunberg. Demoneskrakion. the start of the reformation in Histarical walk The Marketplace of Grinberg is formed in the shape of a triangle. the "small market" runs into the market in form af a funnel. Town hai i. Built 1586/87 as the awelling-house of bailiff Ridiger van Hersfteld. Bought by the town of Grun- berg as the townhall in 1593 fur 2ann thalers. In 1822 the renaissance work was plastered. the corner hays, stretching aver two flours, were moved ana the rich ornaments covered over. In 1922 this was restored. In 1966 the half-timbering was also renovated. 1980 saw the restoration of the half- timbering and urnamentatiun along with the reconstruction of the corner bays. Tavern. Built in 1720 as a half- vimhered construction. First residence of the count's sheriff. Guitlahatl i. Originally town gabie- houses which were joined under a curh- roof in 1806. the second house is the oldest. It was built by Jnhannes Benedictus Stammler in 1665 ana was the first common apothecary of Grinberg. The neoclassical tuilding was inaugurated as guildhall in 1979. the ota post. A splendid half- timbered harngue builting fram 1668. Formerly served as the post Aisnatch. Schulstrape f Gea mee Wont ky is shown by the neighbouring houses. the curnerhouse of the market was built in 1529. : The g ook h fe The two half-timbered buildings on the east site of the marketplace were built in the 18th century. Protruding at their border, 9. there was a stanewell from the 15th century bill 1890. During the reconstruction of the marketplace in 1980 a wetisha&£er was discovered, which probably is originated from the first 10. settlement. It is 120 feet deep and the well walls are made ont of granite stones, which end at a tepth af 62 Feet. In place of the presentday church which was built from 1846 to 1852 and revonated in 1964 to 1967 there stood utkill 1816 a gnkhiz church dating from the middle of the 13th centuts Brewery. The brewery is a half-timberea house from the 18th century. It was converted to a dwelling-house in 1921. It is said that there was a wood cottage previously it this position. Already in 1419 the water out of the spring-valley was collected in this cabbage. The landscape slopes down by ahout 210 feet and together with the opposite terrace it forms the spring-valley, through which khe "Rschershach" has cut its course. Out of many underground gaps the spring water fluws and collects in two ponds. The water was alsa used to power a waber- heel. This waterwheel p~nwered a pumping- system which raised the water to the level 16. uf the tawun and also provided power for twa mills. A le: The present day recreation centre "Brunnen— tal" was founded hy the tourist information centre (Verkehrsverein) of Grinberg. In 1901 they began to lay ont pathways and in 1908 they bought the land in the spring-valley ana prepared walks. The cas tile. On the highest point of the granite-hill, in the area around the middie berrace-hnuse, the castle, constructed 18. in 1186 was located. Cittle was known about the layout. In the building ongosite the "Schluss", as it was called since its recon- struction in 1577, there are many architectural rests uf the existing building from the mona- sterial times. Uhe framework results fram reconstruction after the refarmation. Count Cuadawig 19 uset this castle as accomodation for his wife Hedwig.
